EU election: Online safety tips from YouTubers and Google

Nine YouTube Shorts videos and numerous Google security tools for more online security for Safer Internet Day 2024 on February 6th #SID2024AT

Vienna (OTS) A year with as many important elections as 2024 – including that of the EU Parliament on June 9th – is rare: it is all the more to be expected that there will be attempts to disrupt the election campaign with false and misinformation – in real life world as well as on the Internet.

As long-time supporters of Safer Internet Day, Google and YouTube Austria have this year dedicated their educational work to this important topic. Nine Austrian YouTubers, some with several million subscribers and views, are taking part in the initiative. In their YouTube Shorts videos, they give young people in particular useful tips on how they can detect fake news, disinformation or – with the help of AI – altered images and protect themselves from becoming victims of propaganda or false statements. In Austria, the Safer Internet Day #SID2024AT is organized by the Austrian Institute for Applied Telecommunications (ÖIAT).

On Safer Internet Day, we also remind our users to update their Google account at least once a year Security check to undergo. We also recommend other security features from Google such as the Advanced Protection Program or the Phishing Quiz – more information about this at the end of this press release.
