Erwin Wurm in the Kaiserpark Bad Ischl

The exhibition in the area of ​​the former imperial summer residence in Bad Ischl is largely concentrated on the sculptural work of Erwin Wurm and comprises works from the past three decades. The works on display, some of which give very personal insights into the life of the artist, sometimes treat experiences from his childhood – feelings of fainting and tightness. Next to the Fat Housedem Fat Car and other classics from worms will also create the Schoolthe counterpart to Narrow Housea narrow replica of Wurm’s parents’ home, part of the exhibition. While the one building is a symbol for socialization through the parents’ house, school stands for education by the state.

Important series of work forms worms on the subjects of philosophy, architecture, fashion and luxury. Furthermore, the artist also uses culinary representatives of Austrian folk culture. Bread and pastries, extra sausage and acetic gurkers become protagonists of his work and stand for both the artist himself and for his environment.

The materials with which the artist implements them are as extensive as the different topics of the works shown. In addition to objects made of fabric, metal, acrylic and marble, there will also be some glass objects.

Accompanying the artist’s sculptural oeuvre, there will also be a small cinema in which a selection of Wurm’s video work will be shown. Wurm achieved the One Minute Sculptures International recognition and not least because of a music video of the cult band “Red Hot Chili Peppers”, which used it as a source of inspiration for one of their music videos, for a broad public interest.
