In the future, concrete roof tiles will be produced here in a CO2-neutral and fully automated manner, with manual operations only being required for individual accessory solutions. Wienerberger therefore consistently focuses on making work easier through innovation in the production area. The new plant also uses state-of-the-art digital technologies to obtain comprehensive data on the production process. This will enable rapid and targeted improvements in the ongoing production process in the future and thus an even higher quality standard overall. After the foundation stone was laid in April 2024, production is scheduled to start in the second half of 2025. For wienerberger, Hungary has acted as a regional production center for several European countries since the 1990s. The new concrete roof tile factory will expand the Wienerberger product segment in the future and further strengthen Hungary’s role, as Hejőpapi is centrally located and the new one-hectare digital external warehouse is ideal for supplying surrounding markets. This investment promotes economic activity across borders and supports industrial development across the region. The CO2-neutral factory will be one of the most modern factories for concrete roof tiles and associated accessories such as ridge, roof edge and ventilation tiles in Europe – an important milestone for the company “Thanks to our innovative strength, we have already created numerous Industry 4.0 solutions such as this new plant in Hejőpapi, which enable sustainable construction and benefit our customers, employees and shareholders as well as future generations,” says Heimo Scheuch, CEO of wienerberger. The new plant with its CO2-neutral production process combines sustainability with cost-effectiveness by saving and reusing valuable resources. Digital monitoring enables ongoing adjustments for the more efficient use of raw materials, and in the spirit of the circular economy, used water is filtered and reused. In order to save additional emissions, wienerberger relies on the most modern technology in production across Europe, including the use of heat pumps instead of natural gas to heat drying chambers and buildings.
