Salzburg. On April 6th, Prof. Dr. Emmanuelle Charpentier received the Paul Crutzen Medal during the festive session in the university auditorium in Salzburg.
Rottenbach (OTS) – The award was presented to her by the CEO of VTA and Honorary Senator of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, Ing. Mag. Dr. hc Ulrich Kubinger, presented. The French microbiologist, biochemist and geneticist Prof. Dr. Charpentier, who received the Nobel Prize in 2020 for her groundbreaking research and development of the CRIPR/Cas9 gene scissors, was particularly honored by this recognition. Before the ceremony there was a personal meeting between the Nobel Prize winner and the environmental pioneer Kubinger. This encounter symbolized the close bond between two leading minds in their fields.
Protect and save the earth together
In a personal conversation with Dr. hc Ulrich Kubinger confirmed Prof. Dr. Charpentier identified the serious threats posed by antibiotic-resistant pathogens and the contamination of sewage treatment plants with wastewater from hospitals and the food industry. “We have to realize that we only have this one planet. “, the wastewater expert and the geneticist agree. During the conversation, Prof. Dr. Charpentier explains how impressed she is by the effectiveness of the VTA process-technological wastewater treatment. This VTA technology not only effectively eliminates pollutants from wastewater treatment plants, but also represents an environmentally friendly source of energy by converting the energy consumer into an energy producer.

Experts in conversation
Another important technical discussion took place with Prof. Dr.
Martin Grambow, head of the water management and soil protection department in the Bavarian State Ministry for the Environment and Consumer Protection. Prof. Dr. Granbow represents Bavaria in national and international expert committees and heads the Danube River Basin Community. “We need people who can handle big tasks, develop them further and implement them.
