The standstill in climate protection in traffic finally ends. Europe is ready for the turning point and it comes high pressure: Efuels conquer the political stage, the petrol stations and soon also the engines of the future. Efuel Alliance Austria finally sees the tailwind for synthetic fuels – at the right time. “No technology alone can save the climate, but efuel and other renewables like HVO are the turbo we need,” says Jürgen Roth, President of Efuel Alliance Austria.
The facts are clear – and make hope for real progress instead of ideological dead ends:
-
Such fuels are already tankable today – climate -friendly and at a fair price.
-
Investors are already working on industrial scale productions, 300 projects are prepared.
-
Technology openness prevails-Brussels finally recognizes Efuel as an indispensable building block for the mobility turnaround, so it happens in the zero emissions of industry law.
-
The burner ban is faltering-the renaissance of the highly efficient green combustion engine, operated with green fuel, is in progress.
Efuels are compatible with the masses
Synhelion is already producing solar fuel based on bundled sun rays, Ineratec is scaling up, OMV wants to start the production of HVO and SAF from 2028 – and that is only the beginning. Austrian investors and technology developers mix at the forefront. Production systems are in the starting blocks all over Europe, but what is missing is regulatory clarity. “Politics must now clear the way,” warns Roth.
Bureaucracy makes it difficult to investors
Jürgen Roth: “The bureaucracy still brakes green investments – if you want to invest in hydrogen, you have to be clairvoyant.” Only when 90 % of the electricity comes from green electricity can it be used at all. Roth continues: “You can’t build a future like this. This is a planned economy in the green coat.”
But something moves. The EU Commission has now officially recognized the importance of the eFuels-including CO₂ separation as part of new climate policy. The increasing CO₂ prize hits fossil energies-a clear advantage for efuels.
“Gamechanger” instead of “ideology”
A wide climate strategy is in demand-instead of monoculture at the electric car. Just 4 % of cars in Austria are currently electrical. At the same time, the auto industry is in the crisis and dismisses tens of thousands of jobs. Many manufacturers return to the development of modern combustion engineers – with efuels as a key to decarbonization.
“The fixation on electric cars makes Europe dependent on china-for raw materials, batteries, technology. This is dangerous,” warns Roth.
The European Economic and Social Committee has long since been calling for a European Efuel strategy. Because: more than 50 % of the countries worldwide could produce efuels cheaply – this brings us independence and climate protection.
