Empowering Tomorrow – Skills for Change

The Local Conference of Youth Austria (LCOY Austria) is the official Austrian youth climate conference and is taking place for the seventh time this year. Under the motto “Empowering Tomorrow – Skills for Change”, hundreds of young people will come together from October 11th to 13th, 2024 to further their education, network and raise their voices for ambitious climate policy!

At LCOY Austria, young people from all over Austria meet in the BOKU University premises to exchange ideas and demand a climate-friendly future. The motto “Empowering Tomorrow – Skills for Change” is all about mutual reinforcement, creative idea generation and further training. Young people can expect a diverse program with keynotes, workshops and discussions. LCOY Austria is aimed at everyone in Austria between the ages of 14 and 30. No prior knowledge is required! Participation in the conference is free. Register at: https://lcoy.at/.

Fabijan Schauer, co-lead of the LCOY organizational team: “More than ever, we need young people who get involved in this area and produce innovative ideas. The climate crisis remains the biggest crisis of our time. All solutions are on the table. What now? What’s missing is political will and an “empowering spirit”. That’s exactly what the LCOY achieves.”

With the support of the Federal Ministry for Climate Protection (BMK), the LCOY can organize around 30 workshops over three days that bring science, politics and civil society together. As part of the output session, the participants enter into a dialogue with politicians, which is continued by the youth delegates beyond the conference at national and international levels.

Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler encourages: “The past few years have shown that courageous and ambitious climate policy works. From the climate ticket to the plastic deposit to the record expansion of renewables – all of this has contributed to a sustained reduction in our emissions. If we continue like this, we can fight the climate crisis The commitment of many young people is indispensable. With events like the LCOY, they have a place to network and exchange ideas in order to fight together for a better tomorrow.”
