Elon Musk wants efficient government; Innovation as a driver of reforms

In a T-shirt with the inscription “Tech Support”, Elon Musk virtually stepped on stage on the last day of the World Government Summits. In a live discussion with He Omar Sultan Al Olama, the Minister of State of the VAE for artificial intelligence, digital economy and remote employment applications, Musk shared his vision for efficient government. He emphasized the urgency of tightening administrative processes in order to promote efficiency and economic growth. “The US government needs technical support,” said Musk. The goal must be to create a basis for sustainable prosperity that has existed for many decades, possibly centuries. He said to foreign policy: “America should take care of his own affairs instead of fighting for a change of government.”

The World Government’s Summit, which took place in Dubai from February 11th to 13th, brought together leading politicians and experts from all over the world to discuss central challenges in the areas of governance, health care and trade in the 21st century. The now twelfth edition of the summit serves as a global platform for an inclusive discussion about the securing of our livelihood, the promotion of global prosperity through innovation and partnership.

In various discussions and events, crystalina Georgieva, managing director of the IMF, finance minister, representative of international organizations and economic leaders discussed the challenges of multilateral cooperation, geopolitical tensions and economic inequality. The participants emphasized the need for innovative financing mechanisms and an extended global financial security network to cope with economic crises and support developing countries. In addition, they underlined the role of technology in strengthening financial systems, the global networking to create sustainable framework conditions for debt management in vulnerable economies.

New technologies for progress in healthcare and education

While political and economic decision -makers were looking for solutions for urgent social challenges, innovations in healthcare and education came into focus. Pascal Soriot, CEO of AstraZeneca, asked governments to develop political measures that enable early illness diagnosis in order to facilitate access to national health systems and to promote the early detection of diseases. “75 percent of deaths are due to avoidable diseases, but governments only invest 3 percent of their health budgets in prevention and early detection,” said Soriot. He emphasized that AI is already revolutionizing diagnosis – for example by improved early detection of lung cancer using X -ray images – and also accelerating the development of new medication. With a view to the future, he emphasized that diagnostic centers should be operated around the clock in order to improve access to health care. “We are about to make a simple blood test possible early cancer diagnosis at relatively low costs,” he said.

Musk advocated technological modernization in administration and criticized inefficiencies such as outdated pension systems. In addition, basic education in the USA must be improved – it referred to the poor performance of the country in OECD education ranking. “We have the rule of bureaucracy instead of the rule of the people,” said Musk. He called for a reduction in regulation to promote economic growth.
