eFuels as part of the energy transition

As part of the energy transition, the working group invites you “Profs 4 Technology open energy transition” on September 12th, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at the Otto Mauer Center (Währingerstraße 4, 1090 Vienna) for a press conference. This working group is based on a collection of signatures that 50 Austrian professors have joined in order to underline that an open discussion and approach can show sustainable solutions and the path of radical perspectives and bans should not be followed.

eFuels as part of the energy transition: eFuels are synthetic fuels that are produced from water and carbon dioxide using electricity. They can be used as a direct replacement for fossil fuels in existing engines and engines and accelerate defossilization.

Objective and advantages: The main goal is to make eFuels available in Austria as quickly as possible and to involve Austrian companies. eFuels offer a clean alternative to fossil fuels, are safer than batteries, offer security of supply and can contribute to economic independence.

Sustainability and circular economy: eFuels are an example of a circular economy in action because they are CO2 neutral and can contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Use in aviation: In aviation, Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) are already added to fossil fuels. This reduces soot particle emissions and is a step towards net zero CO2 emissions by 2050. There are already good examples and pioneers, including from extremely safety-conscious industries, for the use of eFuels.

Conclusion: eFuels are a feasible and effective solution for the energy transition that uses existing infrastructure and is CO2 neutral. They offer an ideal way to ensure the energy supply in winter and are an important building block for a sustainable future.
