The two international independent news agencies dpa and AP are deepening their long-standing cooperation and are launching a new Arabic-language service together. Both partners thus offer a comprehensive world news service, combined with strong reporting from the region. From mid-October, the joint service will be delivered to dpa and Associated Press customers under the name “Global Arabic News Service”.
“The fact that we are expanding and deepening our long-standing, good collaboration with AP with the new service is an important signal for the Arab market,” says dpa CEO Peter Kropsch. “Here, two leading independent agencies are joining forces and providing a new offering that underlines the strengths of both partners: the well-founded European perspective of the dpa and the proven global reporting of the AP.”
“AP and dpa have a long-standing and deep relationship based on a shared commitment to fact-based journalism,” said AP President and CEO Daisy Veerasingham. “This innovative service is a major step towards providing even greater levels of independent, accurate and impartial reporting to this increasingly important and dynamic region.”
“With its strong roots in the region and its extensive network of correspondents, the dpa is a recognized independent voice in the Arab world,” says dpa editor-in-chief Sven Gösmann. “Together with AP, we want to further strengthen this position and expand it journalistically.”
For the new service, the previous Arabic language offerings from dpa and AP will be combined. Germany’s largest news agency has numerous offices in the region, which are organized from Cairo under the direction of Mokhtar Gmati. In addition to Egypt, the dpa network also includes locations in Israel, Lebanon, the Palestinian autonomous areas, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Afghanistan and Yemen. The dpa and AP teams work under one roof and form a common hub in the previous editorial offices of the German Press Agency in Cairo.
