State Secretary Alexander Pröll, who is responsible for the coordination of fighting anti -Semitism, is deeply concerned about the increasing negative events that are directed against Israeli citizens. Most recently, a couple who wanted to camp in Tyrol wanted to be rejected because it comes from Israel. The current situation in the Middle East does not justify that Jewish life in Austria is questioned.
After the catastrophe of the Second World War, Austria grown into a peaceful country and understood late, but yet, understood that our history committed to us: Many crimes on the Jews were also committed on Austrian soil – with Austrian participation. The tensions in the Middle East should not lead to the fact that Austrian society is split and that anti -Semitic attitudes become socially acceptable again, the State Secretary continued.
State Secretary Pröll: “You shouldn’t close an eye from anti -Semitism. It comes from the right, from the left, from migrant milieus. He comes a bit from everywhere. But the direction is clear: it is directed against Jewish life. And he affects all of us. Democracy does not live from the fact that everyone thinks equally. Different, but we let each other.
