Don’t blow your money!

“Millions of people in Ukraine have been suffering from Russia’s constant attacks for over two and a half years. In Israel, the West Bank, Lebanon and Syria, sirens sound every day to warn the population of impending rocket strikes. Every euro spent on New Year’s Eve bangers is completely misplaced in worrying times like these. Donate to the needy and traumatized people instead of pointlessly throwing money into the sky.”appeals Reinhard Heiserer, managing director of the Austrian development organization Jugend Eine Weltjust before the turn of the year.

Need continues to be great in crisis regions

“Especially around Christmas, we received many messages of thanks from our project partners on site in the Global South, but also in the regions affected by military conflicts.”says Heiserer. “They all share the hope that the new year will bring peace and less suffering. At the same time, please ask us to continue to help, because the need is great.”

The population in Aleppo needs food, winter clothing and medicine

For example, in the Syrian city of Aleppo, which was badly damaged by the severe earthquake in 2023 and the years-long civil war. “After the fall of the ruler Assad, our project partners in the region have great hope for peaceful coexistence. “They do inhumane things every day to help the suffering population.”reports Heiserer. “There is electricity again in Aleppo and bread has also been distributed to those suffering from hunger, including many mothers and children. But prices have now doubled, inflation is extremely high and the currency has lost value. Food, winter clothing and medicine are most urgently needed – not only in Syria, but also in Lebanon.”continued the Jugend Eine Welt managing director.

Donations are tax deductible

Heiserer also reminds us of the possibility of tax deductibility of donations. “Your donations will automatically be taken into account in your employee assessment if you tell us your full name (first and last name) and your date of birth so that we can report your annual donation amount to the tax office.”explains Heiserer.

A donation received by the end of the year will therefore be included in the 2024 tax equalization. “At the beginning of the new year, Jugend Eine Welt sends your entire annual donation amount from the previous year directly to the tax office. Your donation will automatically be taken into account for the previous year’s tax offset. Depending on your income, you will then receive a refund from the tax office of part of the income or wage tax paid last year (up to 50% of the donation amount).”said Heiserer. “Please help those in need and give them a little hope for the new year with your donation!”
