The year 1900 marked a turning point in medical history: for the first time, women were allowed to study medicine in Austria. Today half of the medical profession is female. The way there was anything but straightforward. The author and journalist Birgit Kofler-Bettschart feels the pioneers, the hurdles, closed doors, bureaucratic obstacles, social resistance, but also the achievements of women for today. With a historical search for traces, personal stories, current perspectives and interviews, the book traces life stories that offer inspiring examples of endurance and passion, for competence and creativity. This makes a bridge between the past and the present.
After a reading of excerpts from the book by the author, the MedUni Vienna, Ampuls Verlag, the Chamber for Doctors Vienna, the Med Uni Graz and the MedUni Innsbruck invite you to discuss with a subsequent get-together.
