“Doc 1: The retro trend: Why we like to live in yesterday” with Lisa Gadenstätter on ORF 1

On May 8th at 8:15 p.m

Vienna (OTS) In a world characterized by constant progress, many people long for the supposed lightness of days gone by. A remarkable trend is emerging: retro is on the rise! Old treasures like records, Gameboys and Polaroid photos are making an unexpected comeback. But what’s so fascinating about tangled cassette tapes and shoulder pads? Lisa Gadenstätter goes on a nostalgic journey to find out all this in “Doc 1: The Retro Trend: Why We Like Living in Yesterday” on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at 8:15 p.m. on ORF 1.

More about the content:

Equipped with a DeLorean from the cult film “Back to the Future”, Lisa Gadenstätter sets off into the past. Her road trip takes her to people who are all celebrating the past in their own way. In 1954, the 90-year-old Viennese Ferry Ebert began setting up all kinds of machines: from Petz-Zuckerl to Manner-Schnitten to the children’s fairy tale machine. To preserve the many beautiful memories, the man nicknamed “Automaton King” has opened his own museum. Something more “modern” can be found in the 6th district of Vienna: all sorts of relics from the early 80s and 90s, such as Pac-Man, pinball machines and the like, are open to the public in the “Retro Gaming Museum”. Lisa Gadenstätter also rediscovers the clothing and music of “back then”. In Ingrid Raab’s vintage fashion shop she tries on the weirdest outfits of the past decades. And at the end of her time travel she also meets the two hip-hoppers Diggerue and Zaza Mank. They released their latest album on cassette as an ode to nostalgia. With titles like “Kassettenkinder”, “VHS” and “Kaugummi-Tschick” they commemorate the – sometimes questionable – trends of the 1980s and 1990s.
