Discussion event: “Feminist foreign policy in a reality check: Perspectives from Iran, Afghanistan and the Middle East” | VIDC
Vienna (OTS) –

At the invitation of the Vienna Institute for International Dialogue and Cooperation (VIDC), experts will discuss on October 15, 2024 how feminist approaches can be effectively implemented in foreign policy to strengthen women and marginalized groups in conflict regions.

“A feminist foreign policy will not provide the solution to the current wars, but it can have a conflict-preventing effect,” says Magda Seewald, gender officer at VIDC.

Horia Mosadiq, Afghan human rights activist and journalist: “Feminist foreign policy would focus on defending women’s rights in Afghanistan, which is sorely needed. I would like Austria to take the lead in defending women’s rights in Afghanistan.”

The aim of the discussion is to critically examine the concept of feminist foreign policy, to show its possibilities but also its limits and to include the demands of feminist actors from the region.

The following will be discussed under the leadership of Tyma Kraitt (publicist): Horia Mosadiq (Afghan human rights defender), Diba Mirzaei (researcher at GIGA Hamburg) and Barbara Mittelhammer (political analyst).
