#dif24 motto “My heart beats island”

From June 21st to 23rd, 2024, the #dif invites you again to the largest open-air festival in Europe with free admission. And: starting signal for the RTIC and for the first time for the RTIC4Kids!

Vienna (OTS/SPW) Barbara Novak, state party secretary of the SPÖ Vienna:In recent years, we in Vienna have successfully and consistently faced the greatest challenges, above all inflation. This means that our Vienna once again lives up to its reputation as the most livable city – and is and remains the flagship for social cohesion. This strong togetherness has been evident at the Danube Island Festival for 41 years now and makes hearts beat faster. ‘My heart beats the island’ is this year’s motto for the festival. It stands for the many people who make Europe’s largest open-air festival with free admission possible with their commitment in this form – employees, artists, volunteers and the many enthusiastic guests who show every year how respectful coexistence works.

Since the beginning, the Danube Island Festival has shown “heart” when it comes to giving something back to the people of Vienna for their strong solidarity. This year too, from June 21st to 23rd, 2024, visitors will be offered a colorful mix of art and cultural programs as well as a comprehensive range of sports, action, information and service over the entire three days of the festival – as always, with free entry for everyone.

Starting signal for the 14th “Rock The Island Contest” & the new “Rock The Island Contest 4 Kids”!

Very special festival acts represent the winners of the “Rock The Island Contest” year after year. The competition, which is inextricably linked to the Danube Island Festival and is established in the industry, is taking place again this year and is entering its 14th edition. Since then, over 150 winners or acts aged 16 and over have emerged as winners and have been able to lay a solid foundation for their future careers with their appearance on the large Donauinselfest stages.

This year, the Donauinselfest would like to give this support to talented children and young people for the first time: As part of the newly created “Rock The Island Contest 4 Kids”, for the first time singers, musicians and bands (consisting of a maximum of six band members) of old age Ages seven to 15 are invited to apply. A performance as part of the children’s program on #dif24 festival Saturday will be raffled off among all participants. But that’s not all: the winning act also gets the opportunity to write their own song in the music studio UPTONE-Studio the Austrian music producer and singer Gary Lux to record. The “Rock The Island Contest 4 Kids” takes place in cooperation with Radio Vienna.

Apply for the stages of #dif24 by March 22nd!

Registration for the “Rock The Island Contest” and the “Rock The Island Contest 4 Kids” is possible now until March 22, 2024. The organizers of the Donauinselfest gave the starting signal for registration together with last year’s “Rock The Island Contest” winners KTEE and A slight one during a media event.

The following still applies to the traditional “Rock The Island Contests”: The requirements for participation are a minimum age of 16 years, a main residence in Austria and the submission of a video of a live performance. The winners will be announced in April. As in the previous year, a total of three slots will be allocated on the large festival stage. For their performance, the winners will not only be rewarded with the applause of the great Donauinselfest audience, but also with a fee of 1,500 euros. The “Rock The Island Contest” is taking place for the second time in cooperation with Hitradio Ö3.

Registration for both competitions can be done via the Donauinselfest website at www.donauinselfest.at/rock-the-island-contest or. www.donauinselfest.at/rock-the-island-contest-4-kids. Here, anyone interested can find all the details, relevant FAQs and conditions of participation at a glance. An expert jury will decide on the winners of the RTIC and RTIC 4 Kids.

Support for local music and young talent secured!

The Donauinselfest stands for low-threshold access to art and culture, fair remuneration for artists, the promotion of aspiring local musicians through initiatives such as the Rock The Island Contest and a balanced gender ratio both on and behind the stages.

Kurt Wimmer, Chairman of the Vienna Cultural Service Association:Increased energy prices and high personnel costs continue to dominate the art and culture scene and challenge artists and organizers alike. As the Vienna Cultural Service Association, it is our job to provide meaningful support to the industry. Artists must be able to make a living from their work. The Donauinselfest has been offering them fairly paid performance opportunities in front of a great audience for 41 years. The funding that was approved yesterday by the Vienna City Council ensures that artists – especially young talent – continue to have these important performance opportunities and that people continue to have free access to culture in the face of rising prices.

#dif24 line-up announcement in May

In less than four months the time has come when people from all districts of Vienna and far beyond will be invited to the Danube Island to celebrate a peaceful festival of superlatives together. Matthias Friedrich, Managing Director of the Pro Event Team for Vienna and project manager of the Danube Island Festival:We are already in the middle of the preparatory work for the 41st Danube Island Festival and I can already reveal that we will surprise visitors with new program items throughout the day. We will present the supporting program and the musical line-up with top Austrian and international acts in May. There will be something for every visitor!
