As “Der Standard” reports on Sunday, there is already a draft for a climate law in the Norbert Tettschnig Ministry, formerly still referred to as the climate protection law. In this, essential goals are left out or screwed back, the important sector goals should not come. The club chairwoman of the Greens, Leonore Gewessler practices sharp criticism: “It sounds like a climate -political declaration of bankruptcy. Climate neutrality does not occur by 2040, there are no binding sector goals – instead you want to buy yourself with dubious certificates.”
Gewessler warns of the consequences for the climate and the economy: “If it comes like this, ÖVP, SPÖ and NEOS do massive damage. At the climate, but also at the Austria location. We lose jobs and competitiveness.”
“Even in the past government period, we made it clear that such a law is not wearable for us without binding goals and without sanctions,” says Gewessler.
The club chairwoman sees her fears of the government’s climate policy, confirms: “Without the Greens, climate protection falls by the wayside – the past few months have also shown that. The invoice for this will ultimately have to pay for our children and grandchildren.”
