Defense Minister Tanner visits the Jagdkommando child care center in the Daun Kaserne in Wiener Neustadt

Vienna (OTS) –

On July 30, 2024, Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner visited the temporary child care center in the Daun Kaserne in Wiener Neustadt under the leadership of the hunting command, which started with 50 children for the first time this year. The children here are looked after by Kinderwelt Niederösterreich. The premises are provided by the Federal Army.

“By allowing our employees’ children to take advantage of temporary childcare, we are fulfilling the employer’s duty of care towards employees. It is very important to me that we as the armed forces support the families of our soldiers. Temporary childcare is an excellent example of how we can promote the compatibility of work and family and is often used. “I’m pleased to see how much joy the children have in the activities on offer,” said Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner

Since the introduction of temporary childcare in 2010, the need has increased significantly. While 45 children were registered in the first year, the number of registrations rose to 700 children in 2024. Children from three to twelve years of age are looked after for a maximum period of four weeks in the federal states of Lower Austria, Upper Austria, Salzburg, Styria and Vienna. The highest participation occurs in Styria, where care is offered in the barracks in Zeltweg, St. Michael, Graz, Feldbach and Straß. The care period extends from July 1st to August 30th.
