Deep winter anniversary: That was the 15th International Weather Summit in Ischgl

From December 7th to 9th, 2023, 40 meteorologists and weather presenters from over 10 countries gathered in the snow-covered Silvretta Arena.

Ischgl (OTS) The organizers draw a successful conclusion after hosting the 15th International Weather Summit (IWG). From December 7th to 9th, 2023, around 40 meteorologists and weather presenters from over 10 countries, including Holland, Switzerland and Great Britain, gathered in the snow-covered Silvretta Arena to analyze the current weather conditions and at the same time record spectacular live images from the Silvretta Arena to send all over Europe. The Weather Summit Award went to participants from ERT Greece, ITV UK and WetterOnline Germany.

Ischgl offered the breathtaking winter backdrop for this year’s industry meeting of weather experts, which was characterized by a remarkable number of participants. A total of around 40 “weather frogs and fairies” from 10 nations were represented. Germany once again had the largest number of participants, while Denmark, the Czech Republic, Poland, the Netherlands, Austria and Switzerland were also well represented. Over two days, almost 100 weather reports were produced in the Silvretta Arena ski area and in the Silvretta Therme with great technical effort and reached an audience of millions.

International orientation, proven partners – Silvretta Therme is an IWG location for the first time
Numerous international TV channels, including TV3 Catalunya, ServusTV, RTL Netherlands and WELT, broadcast live from Paznaun. “The international orientation of the weather summit and its audience of millions ensure a remarkable presence of our region in the media of many of our guests’ countries of origin. Congratulations to the OK team and thanks to everyone who contributed to the successful implementation,” said Thomas Köhle, Managing Director of the Paznaun – Ischgl Tourism Association. Collaboration with TVB Paznaun Ischgl and the Silvrettaseilbahn AG contributed significantly to the success, and the long-standing support from Tirol Werbe was also acknowledged by those responsible at the closing event. For the first time, the Silvretta Therme became the venue for live appearances by renowned weather experts such as Marcus Wadsak (ORF) and Silke Hansen (HR). Günther Zangerl, board member of Silvrettaseilbahn AG, was happy about the perfect winter pictures from the Silvretta Arena and was also able to point to a first: “We were already familiar with live broadcasts from the ski area, what is new is that the Silvretta Therme has also been chosen as the weather summit location this year became. This underlines the diversity of our region and its offering, which we have recently been able to present to millions of viewers across Europe.”

Over 30 live broadcasts – premiere for the “Weather Summit Talk
The technical dimension of the weather summit was particularly evident in the live sets on the Idalp (2,320m) and on the Pardatschgrat (2,624m), where over 30 live broadcasts were carried out within two days. Several TV stations were supplied with images from Paznaun at the same time; in the high mountains there were double-digit temperatures in the morning, which posed a particular technical challenge. “This event could only be held so well thanks to the cooperation of everyone involved. Thanks to the technical team and crew at ProMedia,” said project managers Christian Jost, Managing Director ProMedia and co-organizer Thomas Weninger unison. For the first time, the “Weather Summit Talk” was produced as part of the IWG – renowned weather experts such as Georg Haas (meteorologist from the ProSieben.Sat1 group), Michael Sachweh (BR expert) and NTV weather anchor Björn Alexander took part in the discussion.

Weather Summit Award went to ERT Greece, ITV UK and WetterOnline Germany – IWG 2024 in Stubai
The 15th edition of the International Weather Summit concluded with a celebratory gala in the Silvretta Therme, where the coveted Weather Summit Award was presented. This went to Panos Giannopoulos (ERT Greece, best studio weather), Laura Tobin (ITV UK, best outdoor weather) and Marco Kaschuba (wetteronline.de, best report). The further plans were also announced: The 16th International Weather Summit in 2024 will take place in Stubai.

The International Weather Summit
Since its founding in 2007, the International Weather Summit has developed into a fixture in the calendar of well-known TV weather presenters and meteorologists and has long since spread across the continent. Every year “weathermen and fairies” come together for this industry meeting in Tyrol. From a technical point of view, the well-rehearsed Weather Summit team ensures all the requirements for a smooth production: camera teams specializing in weather filming are available for live production and reportage recordings. There are spectacular filming locations for current outdoor weather reports, a “Weather Summit Talk” on a relevant meteorological topic and the presentation of the highly coveted “Weather Summit Award”.
