Customs seized Dubai chocolate worth 52,000 euros
Vienna (OTS) –

In October and November 2024, the customs officers from the Austrian customs office found what they were looking for twice in a Turkish coach at the Nickelsdorf border crossing. A total of 2,540 pieces of 200g bars, i.e. 508 kilograms of Dubai chocolate, were brought unannounced from Turkey to Austria.

Finance Minister Gunter Mayr: “This investigation shows that our colleagues always have their finger on the pulse of the times. Our controls are important contributions to protecting decent companies that adhere to the rules and pay duties and taxes in accordance with the law. Taxes and fees are also used to finance roads, schools and hospitals, for example.”

Initially, 1,500 panels were found in the trunk of the bus as part of a special operation in October. During another routine check in mid-November, 16 boxes containing a total of 1,040 pieces of Dubai chocolate were discovered in the same Turkish coach. In both cases, double import duties totaling 4,000 euros were collected. The estimated retail value of the 2,540 chocolate bars picked up is just under 52,000 euros.
