Currently 3,800 police students in basic training
Vienna (OTS) –

The police schools in Austria are currently fully utilized as ever: Around 3,800 people are currently completing the two years of basic police training, consisting of theoretical training and a practical phase. Almost a third of the currently trainees are being trained for the Vienna State Police Directorate. Due to the recordings in recent years, a good personnel foundation in the police could be laid.

Clear signal to people in Austria

“The past few years have been used consistently to strengthen the police – and that has an effect. Today we have around 3,100 police officers more on duty than in 2018. The police are present, tangible and ready for use – for the safety of people in our country,” says Interior Minister Gerhard Karner.

While 29,609 police officers were on duty in 2018 across Austria, this year there are around 32,700 – an all -time high. The ongoing basic training forms the basis for this positive development.

Increasing proportion of women

Particular attention is also paid to the proportion of women: it is now over 30 percent in the state police departments. In basic training, the proportion of women is already around 40 percent – a clear evidence of the attractiveness of the police profession also for women.

Through targeted “female recruiting”, the police consistently work on a balanced gender relationship with the security executive – more women than men are now active in administration.
