“Current” question of the week on PULS 24: ÖVP voters for blue-turquoise if Kickl renounces Chancellor
Vienna (OTS) –

The pointed political talk “Aktuell: Die Woche” with moderator Meinrad KnappPolicy advisor Thomas Hofer and pollsters Peter Hajek reviews the political week every Friday at 7:50 p.m. on PULS 24, at 10:20 p.m. on ATV and on Austria’s SuperStreamer JOYN. Among other things, the results of Peter Hajek’s current opinion survey will be discussed. This time, in view of the last National Council election, 500 Austrians who were eligible to vote wanted to know in field work on October 7th and 10th whether Herbert Kickl should give up the office of Chancellor for a possible FPÖ-ÖVP coalition. The question was: “Should Herbert Kickl give up his chancellery and ministerial posts for an FPÖ-ÖVP coalition?”

Of all those surveyed, 28 percent were in favor of Kickl renouncing Chancellorship in favor of an FPÖ-ÖVP coalition, 27 percent are against it and 29 percent say a blue-turquoise coalition is out of the question under any circumstances. 52 percent of ÖVP voters in particular are in favor of waiving Kickl in order to enable a coalition between turquoise and blue, whereas 28 percent are generally against this coalition constellation. 10 percent are against waiving Kickl. For only a quarter of FPÖ voters, abandoning the liberal top candidate would be the right step, 60 percent are against it and only 3 percent would not prefer this coalition under any circumstances. Among those surveyed from the SPÖ electorate, pro (13 percent) and con (14 percent) are almost in favor of Kickl renouncing chancellor, and for 66 percent, an FPÖ-ÖVP coalition is out of the question under any circumstances.

Peter Hajek: “It is hardly surprising that the population is divided on this issue. The crucial question is, how do ÖVP voters see a coalition with the Blues? The turquoise electorate has no problem with the ÖVP’s role as a junior partner in such a coalition, but with a Chancellor Kickl. This should give the SPÖ in particular something to think about. Because who knows how long this restraint will last.”
