Cultural City Councilor Kaup-Hasler opens “Stille Post” in the community building-installation makes neighborhood audible
Vienna (OTS) –

With the installation “Stille Post”, the cultural laboratory community building in cooperation with Kör (art in public space in Vienna) brings voices and stories from the Vienna community building to public space. Visitors can listen to personal stories from residents in two specially designed telephone booths, in the Per-Albin-Hansson settlement in Favorites and the Copenhagen-Hof in Dögling. The artist Laura Andreß captured these voices and transformed them into a walk-in audio installation. The stories tell of how they understand community and live in everyday life – of relationships, friendships and families, be of the interaction and without each other. They give insights into how people stay connected – even over large distances. At the opening in the Per-Albin Hansson settlement in Favoriten Veronica Kaup-Hasler part. “”Art in public spaces opens up rooms for encounter that otherwise often remain hidden in everyday life. Stille Post impressively shows how much stories and experiences from the community building are part of our common city culture. I am particularly pleased that this project brings people together and gives them a stage“, Said Kaup-Hasler. Also Vice Mayor and Housing Councilor Kathrin Gaal indicates the importance of art and culture for living together: “The city of Vienna is investing a lot to promote living together in the community building. Art and culture take on central functions. Because inspired art, stimulating the community and creates talks. These conversations are the foundation of social interaction of a functioning community. This initiative has the goal of creating identification and strengthening the feeling of belonging-compared to your own community building and the common city.

Culture on the doorstep – lived neighborhood in the community building

The artist behind the installation Laura Andreß emphasizes that it is at “Quiet mail ” The personal voices and experiences of the people in the community building: “The stories that can be heard here come directly from the life of people. They revolve around very personal memories and thoughts and make it visible how different experiences of the people can be in the community building. Silent Post invites you to meet various ways-when listening to the stories in the telephone booths, live on live calls to the other courtyard or at the regulars’ tables that take place every month. I would like to encourage people to get involved with other realities of life and give each other time and ear. In my conversations, I found out how often surprising similarities are shown in apparently strangers and discovered matches, where initially hardly any were visible.

With projects such as “Stille Post”, the cultural laboratory of the community building shows that art and culture not only take place in museums or on large stages, but in the middle of everyday life and right on the doorstep. Whether concerts, readings, theater or installations – the initiative brings artistic formats directly where people live and make culture a natural part of the neighborhood. This creates new encounters, community experiences and a stronger feeling of cooperation.
