The “Culture Monday” presented by Clarissa Stadler on February 10, 2025, at 10:30 p.m. in ORF 2 and on ORF ON, looks at the cultural change in the USA, triggered by Donald Trump’s re -election, which the patriarchy will strengthen again. The program also presents the feature film debut of Salzburg’s Bernhard Wenger, which will soon start in the cinema – the filmmaker is really in the studio on the occasion of the cinema of “Pfau – am I?”. The magazine also portrays the award -winning Lebanese artist Ali Cherri, whose work can currently be seen in the Vienna Secession. With misogynic men to power – cultural change in the USA

With the new Trump government, the world not only threatens a brute “America First” policy, but also an aggressive “men first” movement. The patriarchy is back with concentrated power. Donald Trump also owes his election victory to the “Bro-Culture” or the so-called “manosphere” movement-a loose network of influencers, streamers and podcasters that have made sexist piercal talk and hate talk. They may not be known in this country, but they are well known in the United States. In order to win over the male voter layer, Donald Trump was a tireless podcast guest, for example with Adin Ross, who likes to receive right-wing extremist and misogynistic guests. And the politician received his wages: young men chose him in droves. He won 54 percent of all male voices, while opposite candidate Kamala Harris came to just 44 percent. And it was not just the stereotypes of “old white men” who are dissatisfied with the new world -class regulations. It was also disoriented, angry young white men and Latinos, under which Donald Trump picked up record growth. In black men under the age of 45, he was able to double his vote. The “cultural monday” reports on the new culture of masculinity in the United States.

Man without properties – Bernhard Wenger’s feature film debut “Pfau – am I real?”

A man for certain hours – that was yesterday. Today, almost everything can be booked for payment-such as a son like from the picture book for a brazen business Zampano, an eloquent-cultivated concert attendant or a sensitive sparring partner for conflict management with his own husband. The 32 -year -old Salzburg filmmaker Bernhard Wenger did this on the subject of his feature film debut “Pfau – am I real?”, Which will soon start in the domestic cinemas. The fabric of the punchy, biting social satire, which is reminiscent of work of film sizes such as Ruben Östlund, has a real background. On a trip to Japan, Wenger came across the trend “Rent-A-Friend”. The business around the creation of social contacts including replacement families is blooming and has been thriving there for decades. With his filmmaker, in which the German actor Albrecht Schuch was convinced in the leading role, the director was invited to the film festival in Venice and awarded the Settimana Internazionale Della Critica. On the occasion of the cinema, Bernhard Wenger is a guest on the “cultural monument” studio, where he, among other things, and appear, speaks the fragile image of men today and life in a rating society.

Between bombs and art – the Lebanese artist Ali Cherri

His sculptures are fragile, seem archaic and are often an interplay between the constant and the fragile. In his work, including films or drawings, Ali Cherri illustrates that history and cultural values are neither neutral nor universal, but rather constructed stories that are deeply shaped by colonialism, nationalism and geopolitics. The artist was born in Beirut in 1976, a year after the beginning of the Lebanese civil war, which was to last 14 years. 120,000 people died, almost a million were on the run. On the other hand, Cherri, who initially completed an apprenticeship as a graphic designer, experienced the vital art scene that blossomed in Beirut in the 1990s. Not only the conceptual and material examination of violence, but also the belief in imagination as a source of political change is central to his work. Ali Cherri has been living in Paris for several years. The violence in his home country and in the entire region has remained its central topic. In the Vienna Secession, the artist, which was awarded the silver lion of the Biennale, has been dedicated to an exhibition since the beginning of December. Only now can he visit her – after a phase of grief for his parents, who died in Beirut with an Israeli bombing.

Documentation “Architecture makes school” (11:20 p.m.)

A lot has changed at Austria’s schools since the 2017 educational reform. The teachers can individually adapt their lessons to the needs of the student body. The traditional frontal lessons are increasingly being replaced by free learning in small groups. In addition to committed educators, these new teaching methods also require a new school architecture. In her TV documentary, Nicola Eller presents five examples of innovative learning landscapes, in which learning takes place not only in the classrooms. Several classes share a common room here, in which not only learned, but also played and eaten. In the so-called cluster schools, teachers are managers: inside of small groups, while the students decide for themselves where and with whom they want to work in the team. In order to be able to implement these new forms of teaching, transparent and manageable rooms are required.
An example of this is the Sonnwendviertel education campus in Vienna. The class walls are made of glass and there is access to the outside. The elementary school in Vorarlberg also offers the children a barrier -free view of the area. And in the Neustift Campus in Tyrol, the lessons can even be held on the green roof.
Many educational buildings in Austria, including the Schendlingen campus in Vorarlberg and the already mentioned campus Sonnwendviertel in Vienna, are now all -day schools that offer children and young people a second home, especially from socially weaker families. Natural and sustainable materials such as wood and sheep’s wool contribute significantly to well -being.
In the Salzkammergut agricultural education center, the students learn in and with nature. The building is largely made up of domestic white fir and is a passive house. The wood has a calming effect and inspires the prospective agricultural, floristry and restaurant experts.
Since the end of 2022, new pedagogical concepts have been in the foreground that are intended to promote the independent learning and critical judgment of the students. However, the question arises whether and how these pedagogical concepts can be implemented in the old school buildings. The existing classrooms are often too small for free learning and project lessons. With the new school architecture, however, movement comes into the educational landscape.
