Country and “young people”

“Country and People” 2025 shows the lives of young people in the countryside with exciting examples, starting with the farm influencer Marie Kerndler from Bergland in Lower Austria. On social media, the 25-year-old farmer, representing many young farmers in Austria, gives insight into the reality of her life and the issues of agriculture and rural life that concern her. The “Scheichelbeirin”, as she also calls herself, farms and has a farm with many animals – from cows, turkeys, donkeys to goats. She presents her work on the farm, explains working methods and food production and sees herself as an ambassador for young and innovative agriculture.

*Mushroom trend

In René Robitsch’s mushroom cultivation in Brückl in Carinthia, “Land und Leute” shows the variety of regionally grown mushrooms, from mushrooms to oyster and king oyster mushrooms to more exotic mushrooms such as shiitake, maitake, lime mushroom or hedgehog beard. Mushrooms are becoming increasingly important as a meat substitute and as a valuable food.

*Lease cattle and sheep

At the Ranftl organic farm in Vulkanland, Styria, you can lease a whole cow or sheep through so-called meat subscriptions. You get live images of the animals in the pasture on your cell phone and after the slaughter you receive the selected meat.

*Kurt birdhouse and his palaces

Kurt Eidler from Moosbrunn builds birdhouses made of larch wood as a variety of residences in his hobby workshop in Lower Austria. His custom and made-to-order birdhouses are models of family homes, windmills, traditional farmhouses and more.

*On the trail of the winter sun

A journey of discovery to the wintry places of Lake Hallstatt in the Salzkammergut in Upper Austria and to a special phenomenon: In winter, the sun hardly or no longer penetrates some houses in Hallstatt, which is built close to the rocks.
