Now is the time to listen to the future and preserve childhood!
Children’s rights and lives are at a crossroads. They are confronted with rapid and persistent change in various areas that will question the foundations of childhood in the future. And right now, conflict and gross abuses around the world are undermining one of humanity’s most fundamental principles – that children deserve care and protection, regardless of circumstances.
On the occasion of World Children’s Day, the International Day of Children’s Rights, on November 20th, UNICEF publishes the annual “State of the World’s Children” report. The report outlines several scenarios from best case to worst case, to paint a picture of what childhood could look like in 2050. It becomes clear: we are at a critical point in the history of children’s rights.
Three megatrends are shaping the future of children: the climate crisis, new technologies and demographic change.
That’s why it’s now important to take paths to a fairer, sustainable future for every child that are also inspired by young people.
We look forward to your accreditation presse@unicef.at.
