Platoon leader Jessica Pilz climbs to the bronze medal in the combination, bouldering and lead climbing, in Paris. The army athlete, who trains at the Army Performance Sports Center in Innsbruck, only had to admit defeat in the final to Janja Garnbret from Slovenia and the American Brooke Raboutou. The 27-year-old’s medal is the second climbing medal for Austria at this year’s Olympic Games.

Defense Minister Klaudia Tanner: “I am very proud of platoon leader Jessica Pilz’s fantastic result. Her years of hard work were rewarded at the Olympics. She achieved her goal with the medal after finishing seventh at the Games in Tokyo.”

The Army Sports Center has been promoting Austrian competitive sports with its eleven Army competitive sports centers since 1962. Every year, up to 495 people, including 20 in sports for the disabled, are part of the army sports support program. Army sports traditionally provide numerous participants in major sporting events such as the Olympic Games, European and World Championships. The athletes of the Federal Army have already achieved numerous successes and medals for Austria in the past.
