According to media reports from the Standard, SS songs were sung at a funeral of a former FPÖ official. This is the funeral of an “old man” from the German national fraternity Olympia and a long-time FPÖ official, at which several FPÖ candidates came together for the upcoming National Council election. Among those present were National Council member Harald Stefan, who is running for the FPÖ in first place on the Vienna state list, and Norbert Nemeth, the club director of the Freedom Parliamentary Club, who is running for ninth place on the federal list. Also on site: National Council member Martin Graf, who is currently running for third place on the Vienna state list. They all attended the funeral, where an SS song was sung.
“The FPÖ proves once again that it is right-wing extremist. Destroying democracy, denying history, despising people – that’s not just Kickl, it’s widespread throughout the FPÖ. Just one day before the National Council election, it comes to the surface again when FPÖ grandees are there, when an SS song is started and the verse ‘From the Holy German Reich’ is sung,” says Zadić, Justice Minister and Vienna’s top candidate Greens.
“I once again call on the constructive forces to distance themselves politically and finally take a clear stance. This particularly affects the ÖVP, which still believes that there are sensible voices within the FPÖ and acts as if Herbert Kickl was the only problem in order to keep coalition options open. Unfortunately, it also applies to parts of the SPÖ. The representatives from five SPÖ federal states who are toying with blue should rather follow the opinion of their party leader Andreas Babler. Unfortunately, this hasn’t been able to prevail with them so far,” adds Zadić and continues: “Only the Greens are closed here because we all know that right-wing extremists have no place on the government bench.”
