Coolcation is becoming an increasing topic for summer vacation. Finally, in 2024, some heat records fell in Europe – including the hottest day. A region in which cooling can be found in all facets is Saalfelden Leogang in the Salzburgerland. Whether glacier hikes, the silent water area or just a jump into the Ritzensee – nobody gets the heat to head here.
“Nature & climate in change”: hike to the deepest glacier in Central Europe
A journey through time on the tracks of ice, water and change: this expects participants on the guided hike “Nature & Climate in Change”. It is the first tourist knowledge transfer offer on the climate crisis in Austria. A guide shows the changes in nature and the resulting problems. The hike leads, among other things, to the low -steward glacier of the Eastern Alps, the Birnbach glacier in Leogang. Exciting: In the past, the avalanche glacier supplied the major breweries in Munich to beer cooling, which was transported into the valley via a wooden slide. Good to know: The hike is part of the 365 days active & creative experience program and even free of charge with the Saalfelden Leogang Card.
Cool insider tips: hike to the Stoissengraben waterfall and visit the show mine Leogang
The Stoissengraben promises a really refreshing hike: it goes around 2.3 kilometers through a wide gorge that runs deep through the rock. The tour is ideal for families and hikers who prefer the nature experience to the altitude meters. The path is mostly shady and the cool mountain water of the Windweißbach, which flows through the gorge, ensures the necessary cooling. Simply wade shoes and wade barefoot through the water. However, the last piece of the waterfall is only suitable for experienced and sure -footed hikers.
A refreshing insider tip for the whole family is the show mine Leogang, which is located in the oldest mining area in the state of Salzburg. Here, visitors experience a cool (guided) adventure in a labyrinth of hand -shot tunnels.
Silent water on the Asitz: Kneipp with a dream view
As the name suggests, the quiet water on the Asitz, the mountain of the senses, is a place to relax. From the crystal -clear storage lake, on which you can jump perfectly stones, you have a phenomenal view of the Leoganger Steinberge. It is best to place in one of the rest and enjoy the view. In the associated Kneipp area, hikers find soothing cooling. Because Kneipp helps with tired limbs and stimulates circulation, metabolism and blood circulation. You can easily get to the Asitz with the Asitz and Steinbergbahn. In addition to the “quiet water”, many attractions are waiting for visitors here: from the soundtrack islands and the natural cinema to the sound toboggan run and the new puzzle hunt on the game hiking trail.
Waldbaden am Asitz: New mindfulness day
Not only on the water also in the forest, hikers find pleasant temperatures on hot days. Waldbaden is still popular, which is now also offered at the Asitz. Waldbaden or Shinrin Yoku is a Japan -related method. The aim here is to relax in and with nature, to slow down and to break away from daily stress.
From this July, Maria Leutgeb-initiator of the “Waldbaden am Asitz” project-will lead a mindfulness day on the mountain of the senses as a trained hiking guide and Shinrin Yoku Expert (every Thursday in July, August and October). After the driveway from the Steinbergbahn valley station, 14 stations are immigrated to the valley, which are entirely devoted to the well -being and regeneration with and in nature.
Shady bike trails in the forest
The forests around Saalfelden Leogang also have pleasant temperatures for bikers: bike enthusiasts always find the ideal tour. The sustainably built single trails run mainly through the shady forest. On the Forsthof Trail, for example, the drivers immerse themselves in a forest, in which spectacular rock formations are waiting and remind of Middle-earth from “The Lord of the Rings”. The new, hand-made old smithy trail also leads over natural forest and alpine meadows. A bike tour to Lake Zell, the Ritzensee or the Pillersee is also absolutely worthwhile. The routes are extremely beautiful – and the three waters are all swimming lakes.
Jump into the Ritzensee
The classic way to get a refreshment on a hot day is a jump into the cool water. In addition to the observation swimming pool in Saalfelden, which has a diving pool, a water slide and a flow channel, there is the Sonnrain leisure facility in Leogang. This offers, for example, a giant slide, a whitewater canal and a Kneipp system. In addition, the Ritzensee Natural Bathing system promises the finest bathing pleasure. All three outdoor swimming pools are open from May to September and admission is included in the Saalfelden Leogang Card.
