Construction conference “Innovation and Resource Efficiency” on September 25th at the Campus Wien University of Applied Sciences

Construction conference “Innovation and Resource Efficiency” on September 25th at the Campus Wien University of Applied Sciences

How can the construction industry work resource -efficiently and climate -friendly? Resource efficiency means consuming less material and using potential better – with digital support, technological innovations and new ways in the life cycle of buildings.

Resource conservation in the construction industry

“Protecting resources is not a goal of tomorrow – but a task for today. Hardly any area is affected by change as much as the construction industry. Dealing with natural resources, increasing demands on energy efficiency, climate protection and circular processes are calling for a profound rethink,” says Claudia Link, head of the Department of Building and Design at the Campus University of Applied Sciences.

Martin Stopfer, head of the client management, adds: “At the construction conference, which will take place for the third time this year, we discuss how resource efficiency can succeed in practice. Whether through digital tools, innovative materials or through the strategic realignment of construction processes. Future -proof construction knows many ways.”

Bridge renovation retired

Markus Vill, head of the building and design research center at the Campus Wien University of Applied Sciences, is devoted to the question of how sustainable bridges are and what economic potential can be exploited through targeted renovations. New test and monitoring methods- such as drones or fiber optical sensors- enable a more precise assessment of the remaining support reserves.

Recycling of styrofoam

Patrick Taschner, group leader intralogistics and material fluid planning by Fraunhofer Austria Research GmbH, presents the project “Epsolutely”. In the project it becomes clear how styrofoam from construction sites, dropouts and packaging can be led in the circuit. With mechanical and solvent -based processes, it is possible to generate high -quality recyclates that are already used industrially.

Material efficiency in cement production

Haimo Primas, CEO, the Holcim Austria and President of the Association of the Austrian Cement Industry concrete, reports on sustainable approaches in concrete production. Concrete is the most used building material and – like the binder cement – is at the center of sustainable building.

Bionic building structures that use the principles of nature to make buildings more sustainable enable increased stability with less concrete consumption. In this way, the use of materials can be reduced by up to 30 percent. Sample buildings with iron concrete can be found from before 1900, as the historic anchor bread hall in Vienna shows.
