“Consciously healthy”: Lung specialist Arshang Valipour provides insight into the research results of a Long Covid study

On May 11th at 5:30 p.m. on ORF 2

Vienna (OTS) Dr. Christine Reiler will present the following articles in the ORF health magazine “Bewusst Gesundheit” on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. on ORF 2:

Kidney donation – life-saving Mother’s Day gift

A bouquet of flowers, chocolates or perfume are classic Mother’s Day gifts. A young Upper Austrian gave his mother, who has kidney disease, a very special gift. He donated one of his kidneys, although this was not medically possible due to an immunological intolerance. The secret is called cross-over kidney donation. A partner or relative of a dialysis patient donates a kidney to a stranger. In return, the recipient receives a suitable kidney from the pool of donor couples. “Consciously Healthy” shows how this process actually works using this touching Mother’s Day story. Long-Covid-Studie

International ME/CFS Day is celebrated worldwide on May 12 to raise awareness of myalgic encephalomyelitis, known as chronic fatigue syndrome, and to raise awareness of the challenges in care. A current study at the Karl Landsteiner Institute is examining the effectiveness and tolerability of a drug in patients with Long Covid who suffer from severe fatigue symptoms. The lung specialist and head of the institute at the Floridsdorf Clinic, Prim. Doz. Dr. Arshang Valipour, provides insight into the research results and informs when the results and drug approval can be expected.

Young Carer – when children look after their parents

In Austria there are around 42,700 children who care for their relatives. They are also called “young carers” and are on average only 12.5 years old. Sofia Jüngling-Badia is 26 years old and cares for her father, who suffers from MS and dementia. So that he can recognize her for as long as possible, Sofia decides to move in with him in her early 20s. Since then, the Upper Austrian has been caring for her father and has also taken on adult representation for him. A task that is a great challenge for the daughter. In contrast to Sofia, Hanna Klinger cared for her mother as a child. At just seven years old, she took on tasks at home that her school colleagues and friends did not have to do. After graduating from school, Hanna moves to Vienna to study nursing. She hasn’t seen her mother every day since then, but as a young carer, Hanna is still confronted with worries and tasks that are not part of everyday life for most people in their mid-20s. “Consciously healthy” tip on the subject of gallstones

Nausea after eating, pressure or pain in the right upper abdomen can be signs of biliary problems. The most common cause is gallstones. Gallstones have formed in almost every fifth woman between the ages of 45 and 70 and every tenth man. These don’t necessarily cause any problems. If cramps or pain occur, they are usually treated with medication, and special diets can also help. Univ.-Prof. explains what these look like and when an operation is necessary. Dr. Siegfried Meryn.

Asparagus and Co – this is how food stays fresh and healthy

At least a quarter of the food bought in Austria ends up in the trash and that also has to do with incorrect storage and storage. In the trash cans at home, food is often still in its original packaging or unprocessed. Many consumers simply buy too much and then do not have the opportunity to process all the food before it becomes unsightly or spoiled. Even the refrigerator is not always the best solution to all storage problems. It’s not just about avoiding waste, but also about maintaining the quality and health benefits for as long as possible. “Consciously Healthy” got tips from a nutrition expert at the beginning of the harvest season.
