Experts from science and politics show future solutions for Austria and Burkina Faso
The consequences of climate change in countries like Burkina Faso will have catastrophic long-term consequences for the global environment, economy and society. That’s why countries from the north and south exchange their experiences and establish partnerships at our conference. Together we want to develop strategies and concrete practical suggestions on how we can sustainably counter the effects of climate change and strengthen the population

Vienna (OTS) – How is climate change affecting the Sahel region in Africa and Europe? What prospects are there for particularly affected countries like Burkina Faso? Which projects can reduce the effects of climate change? The conference is dedicated to these questions „Intercultural Day for Climate Health – a dialogue between Austria & Burkina Faso” on Saturday, June 1, 2024 in the ÖJAB-Europahaus Dr. Bruno Buchwieser, House 1, Linzer Straße 429, 1140 Vienna.
The NGO ÖJAB – Austrian Young Workers’ Movement, which has been providing development cooperation in Burkina Faso since 1961, is organizing the conference together with the Burkinabé Association in Austria ARBA (Association des Ressortissants du Burkina Faso en Autriche) and with the support of the Embassy of Burkina Faso in Austria.
From 3:30 p.m. there will be experts the UN, the International Atomic Energy Agency IAEA, the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) and scientists from the Vienna Universities of Natural Resources and Veterinary Medicine will discuss on the podium. The well-known climate researcher Univ.-Prof. Dr. Helga Kromp-Kolb is expected. From the political side, European MP Lukas Mandl (ÖVP) and climate spokesperson Huem Otero García (Greens) have confirmed their attendance. Mme. Maimounata Ouattara, Ambassador of Burkina Faso to Austria, takes over the protection of the climate conference. The conference language is German and English with simultaneous translation via headsets.
African countries like Burkina Faso, which are characterized by agriculture and livestock farming, are particularly affected by climate change, even though they themselves contribute little to global warming. Climate change is causing droughts and extreme weather events and triggering food crises. “The consequences of climate change in countries like Burkina Faso will have catastrophic long-term consequences for the global environment, economy and society. The conference also offers from 9:00 a.m a Supporting program the intercultural encounter between Burkina Faso and Austria – with handicrafts, exhibitions, culinary delights, music, drumming and dance workshops for children and adults. From 7:30 p.m The program includes a Burkinabe fashion show and live music by artists from Burkina Faso.
Admission is free and donations are collected for development projects. Registration for the conference is not required. The ÖJAB – Austrian Young Workers Movement (www.oejab.at) is an independent and non-profit NGO. It operates 23 student residences and works in the areas of stationary and mobile care, vocational education and integration work and development cooperation.
