The Principality of Liechtenstein survived the six years of the Second World War without occupation or destruction. Nevertheless, the neutral country without the army is constantly in danger. With its 11,000 inhabitants, it is between the warfare Germany and the armed neutral Switzerland. You can lean on the Confederation. But from Germany, the so -called Third Reich, the connection, which also strives for local supporters of National Socialism and thus split society. Life for people is difficult to uncertain the future of Liechtenstein as an independent state.
In ten subject areas, the exhibition shows how the people in Liechtenstein experience this stressful war until the murderous war ended in Europe on May 8, 1945.

Together in the Rhine Valley. 1938-1945
For the first time, museums from Liechtenstein, Austria and Switzerland come together and, together – 80 years after the end of World War II – realize a cross -border commemoration project. Project partners are the Prestegg Museum in Altstätten SG, the Jewish Museum of Hohenems and the Liechtenstein State Museum. Visit the special exhibition in the State Museum and you will receive discounted entry to the Museum Prestegg Altstätten and the Jewish Museum of Hohenems – and vice versa.
