Vienna (OTS) – “Wolfgang Hollegha was a rhythmist of nature who worked his way towards it via the detour of abstraction, who made the anima of nature dance on his canvases,” Vienna’s City Councilor for Culture Veronica Kaup-Hasler remembers the Austrian artist.
“As one of the Austrian revolutionaries of the pictorial space, the painter and Documenta participant of post-war modernism was successful in New York, exhibited several times at the Guggenheim, but preferred his independence and the isolation of rural refuges to international fame. And so Wolfgang Hollegha will see himself as unwavering “The ideas of the following world-class artists will be inscribed in art history as Austrian avant-gardists. My deepest sympathy goes out to his family, his companions and friends,” continued Kaup-Hasler.
Wolfgang Hollegha was awarded the City of Vienna Prize for Painting in 1984 and the Golden Medal of Honor in 1990.
