Vienna (OTS) –
“With Jürgen Messensee we have lost one of the last great representatives of Austrian Informal,” emphasizes City Councilor for Culture Veronica Kaup-Hasler. “The Viennese artist was characterized by his philosophical approach to art, as he viewed painting as a form of thinking, a resonance with reality. This was reflected abstractly and gesturally on the canvas, as a relic of memory. My deepest sympathy goes out to his relatives, friends and companions,” concluded Kaup-Hasler.
Jürgen Messensee received the City of Vienna Prize for Fine Arts in 1993. In 2007, the Golden Medal of Honor for services to the State of Vienna was added.
