Criticism of school bureaucracy: Is it difficult for parents to teach their children at home?
In Austria there is the possibility of teaching children outside of school. Many parents have been learning on their own at home with their children, especially during the pandemic. “Home schooling” is now being used less again. Parents are now complaining to the Ombudsman about bureaucratic hurdles. Ombudsman Walter Rosenkranz discusses a specific case from Vienna with the Vienna education director Heinrich Himmer.
Problems with flood protection: Is the community of Schlierbach now adequately protected from floods?
In Schlierbach in Upper Austria, citizens asked the Ombudsman for help because flood protection measures had allegedly made flooding in the town even worse. Almost two years ago, a new protection project was discussed on the “Citizens’ Lawyer” program. Is there a satisfactory solution now?

Fight against a new railway line
It is currently one of the most controversial Vienna railway projects: the expansion of the connecting railway in the Vienna Hietzing area. The ÖBB speaks of making public transport more attractive in the interests of climate protection. Hietzinger citizens’ initiatives have formed against the project and criticize the planned high position of the route, the loss of crossing options and fear an increase in freight traffic through the densely populated residential area. The project was discussed in “Citizens’ Lawyer” a year and a half ago. Is it being built now?
