No money for an anniversary: Why does a teacher have to wait for her anniversary money after 40 years of service?
After 40 years, educators in Austria are entitled to a so-called anniversary bonus amounting to four months’ salary. In recent years, however, there have been repeated complaints about late payments and inadequate communication in the Vienna Education Directorate. Two teachers shared their experiences with Barbara Stanton. Ombudsman Walter Rosenkranz criticizes the Education Directorate’s approach.
Dispute over garbage fees: Who can decide how and to whom the payment is made?
Annemarie L. contacted the Ombudsman because she found the changed billing modalities of her operating cost bill to be inconclusive. Can the housing association actually make a contract change unilaterally? Ombudsman Walter Rosenkranz was involved in the matter and rated the procedure as incorrect in “Citizen Attorney”. Now the authority has agreed with the legal opinion of the Ombudsman.
No funding for the purchase of a heat pump if there is a district heating connection
The Ministry of Climate Protection is promoting the switch from oil and gas heating to climate-friendly alternatives. Günter F. from Eibiswald in Styria wanted to replace an old oil boiler with a heat pump. But he doesn’t receive any funding for it. The reason:
He lives near a biomass heating plant and only receives funding for connecting to this local heating network, but not for a heat pump. Mr. F. considers this to be unequal treatment. Faulty ventilators: Do those affected receive compensation?
Around 35,000 people in Austria have used home ventilators, which can pose health risks. Since 2021, “Citizen Attorney” has been reporting on the efforts of affected patients to seek compensation. The consumer protection association has started a collection campaign. What is the interim status?
