“Citizen Lawyer”: Damage caused by e-scooters – why do those injured remain stuck with their costs?

On February 17th at 6 p.m. on ORF 2

Vienna (OTS) Peter Resetarits will present the following contributions in the program “Citizens’ Lawyer” on Saturday, February 17, 2024, at 6 p.m. on ORF 2:

Exemption from prescription fees: Do chronically ill people with low incomes pay too much?

Nobody in Austria should have to spend more than two percent of their annual net income on prescription fees. The catch is: Medicines that cost less or even the same as this year’s prescription fee of 7.10 euros are not counted towards this upper limit. This means that fewer and fewer chronically ill people are benefiting from the exemption from prescription fees, criticizes Ombudsman Bernhard Achitz and is calling for a cap on medication costs instead of a cap on prescription fees.

Damage caused by e-scooters: Why do those injured remain stuck with their costs?

At the beginning of this year, an electric scooter from a rental company was left in the entrance area of the K. family’s business in Vienna. As a result, the door control system became defective and a repair would cost almost 4,000 euros. Because the rental company refused to cover the damage – unknown perpetrators had taken the scooter without authorization and caused the damage – Mr K. turned to “citizen lawyer”. In the studio, Mag. Martin Hoffer from the ÖAMTC explains insurance law deficits and suggests measures that could prevent this and numerous similar conflicts.

Mysterious traffic sign: Did it have to be replaced after criticism in “Citizen’s Advocate”?

There was a nine-line message under a no-parking and stopping sign in Vienna that is difficult for road users to understand. Most people assumed that you were allowed to park your vehicle there at certain times. But far from it. The authorities have therefore ordered numerous towings. The chief lawyer of the Board of Trustees for Road Safety surprisingly pointed out in the broadcast that the Administrative Court had declared punishments in connection with such a sign to be inadmissible. Has the sign been removed and are those who have already paid their fines getting their money back?

Sent in circles by PVA and ÖGK?

Herbert W. cares for his wife, who suffers from dementia, at home. On medical advice, he applied to the pension insurance company for outpatient rehabilitation for her. He received two rejections without any further explanation. An application to the Austrian Health Insurance Fund also failed. Herbert W. therefore contacted the Ombudsman. After a discussion in the “Citizen Lawyer” studio, the couple received the support they wanted.
