Mobile pig farming is over?
The district administration in St. Pölten is occupied by farmer Andreas H.’s mobile pig farming. Around 500 pigs live outdoors in a field and have eight tents as shelter. An innovative project that is also praised by animal rights activists. But according to the district administration, the groundwater is endangered by the pigs’ excrement and has banned this keeping. Ombudsman Walter Rosenkranz criticized the fact that the authorities had not evaluated this new project before the ban.
No place to study?
Because Mr. F. from Vorarlberg does not have a high school diploma, but “only” a university entrance qualification test, he does not fall into the so-called “Austrian pot” in the strict selection process for a place at university. He therefore has fewer chances of studying medicine than his colleagues with a high school diploma. Ombudsman Rosenkranz has criticized this unequal treatment. How did the Ministry of Education react?
Account suspension with consequences
“I am a ‘persona non grata’ at the bank and I don’t know why, and above all – what to do next with my company,” says a desperate Lower Austrian. Due to a sudden blocking of his account, he was unable to make transfers to the tax office, social security institutions and suppliers, and because he was entered on a warning list, he would not be able to get an account at another bank. Inquired: What will happen to the EVN Rosenburg power plant?
EVN has been planning various renovation concepts for the historic Rosenburg hydropower location for many years. A higher dam and an underwater depression were planned to expand the power plant. But environmental protection organizations and the “Lebendiger Kamp” initiative feared the destruction of the “Natural Jewel Kamp”. Now EVN has surprisingly withdrawn this expansion.
