“Citizen Attorney”: Electricity meter mixed up – who is responsible?

On February 3rd at 5:55 p.m. on ORF 2

Vienna (OTS) Peter Resetarits will present the following contributions in the program “Citizens’ Lawyer” on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 5:55 p.m. on ORF 2:

Lack of distinction between sick leave and vacation

The rules for absences in day care centers and shared apartments for people with disabilities cause complaints. In the so-called “day structures” in Vienna, for example, a maximum of 50 days of absence are generally permitted. Regardless of whether it is vacation or sick leave. Any additional days of absence must be paid for out of your own pocket. Daily rates of 60 euros are difficult for those affected, who usually only have pocket money. Those affected and Ombudsman Bernhard Achitz complain about a system that is not fair in this form.

Final rest not permitted

“Natural burials” have been carried out more and more frequently in Austria for several years. The ashes of the deceased are buried in a degradable urn in the forest or in a meadow. But because more than a thousand “private burial sites” have already been built in the “Forest of Eternity” in Vienna, the Vienna magistrate has banned further burials. Brigitte S.’s husband was buried there a few years ago and after her death she also wanted to find her final resting place there. However, this was prohibited by the magistrate of the city of Vienna. Ombudsman Bernhard Achitz has criticized this approach. Was Ms. S.’s last wish fulfilled?

Electricity meter mixed up – who is responsible?

Andreas W. has been a tenant in an apartment building for two years. Shortly before Christmas, his neighbor noticed that the electricity meters had apparently been connected incorrectly. Andreas W. pays for his neighbor’s electricity consumption and vice versa. He spent weeks asking for the error to be fixed. But Wiener Netze referred to the property management and the property management to Wiener Netze. Who has to solve the problem?

Wrong load profile – no brake on electricity costs

Many complaints to the “Citizens’ Lawyer” editorial team concern a problem that Monika H. goes public with. She has concluded an electricity network contract with Wiener Netze for her apartment. During the annual billing, she discovered that the statutory electricity price cap for private households had not been credited to her. When asked, she learned from the network operator Wiener Netze that her load profile was classified as “commercial”. Unfortunately, a retroactive change is not possible, which is why there is no electricity price brake for them and many others who are incorrectly classified as commercial.
