Church welcomes expansion of the volunteer allowance for volunteers

Bishop Elbs thanks MPs after the decision in parliament – “The regulation that has now been decided is a valuable sign of recognition for volunteers in the church”

Feldkirch (KAP) The Catholic Church welcomes the expansion of the volunteer allowance for volunteers in recognized churches and religious societies, which was decided in Parliament on Wednesday. “Numerous volunteers are involved in the church in the religious, social and cultural areas and thereby provide a valuable service to society,” said Diocesan Bishop Benno Elbs on behalf of the Austrian Bishops’ Conference to Kathpress after the decision was passed.

“The regulation that has now been adopted enables expenses incurred in the course of voluntary work to be reimbursed and is a valuable sign of recognition for volunteers in the church,” said the bishop, who is in favor of this government initiative and the broad support of MPs showed gratitude. Elbs is responsible for the areas of Caritas and finance in the bishops’ conference, among other things.
