Beijing (ots/PRNewswire) – The opening ceremony of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route was held in Kazakhstan on Wednesday, marking the debut of Chinese trucks using a road transport route to reach the Caspian Sea.
Previously, Chinese-European freight trains crossing the Caspian Sea from China had maintained smooth operations for two years. A comprehensive, multi-dimensional network has now emerged that integrates road, rail, air and pipeline transport.
As two founding members of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the China-Kazakhstan project is an expression of the Shanghai spirit characterized by mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality, consultation, respect for the diversity of civilizations and the pursuit of common development.
The appeal of the Shanghai spirit continues to grow as Belarus officially joined the SCO on Thursday during the 24th session of the SCO Council of Heads of State in Astana, becoming the tenth member.
Building a world of universal security
During the SCO summit, Chinese President Xi Jinping called on member states to ensure security in the face of the real threat posed by the Cold War mentality, address complex and interconnected security challenges through dialogue and coordination, and respond to the changing international landscape with a win -Win approach to building a world of lasting peace and universal security.
SCO members adopted the Astana Declaration and committed to continuing cooperation in combating terrorism and combating drug trafficking and transnational organized crime.
Members also called on UN member states to carry out general and complete disarmament under effective international control, consolidate the global nuclear non-proliferation system and oppose an arms race in outer space, according to an initiative released on Thursday Calls for solidarity between countries to promote justice, harmony and development in the world.
In a statement, they said the current security risks and challenges are global in nature and can only be resolved by building a multipolar world, improving global economic governance and coordinated efforts to combat conventional and non-conventional security threats.
“Real security can only be achieved when every country is safe,” Xi said at the SCO Plus meeting on Thursday.
Cooperation for mutual benefit
Xi also pointed out at the SCO summit that member states should adhere to mutual benefit and inclusiveness, keep industrial and supply chains stable and smooth, promote the internal momentum of regional economies and work toward common development goals.
China has promoted economic cooperation among SCO member states and proposed initiatives such as the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) to promote common development.
The China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan Railway Project is a milestone of the BRI and a measure to promote connectivity and trade among the members of the SCO. The three countries signed an intergovernmental agreement on the project in June.
Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said the railway line will be the shortest land link between China and Central Asian countries as he congratulated the signing via video link. It will also open up large markets in South Asia and the Middle East and promote cooperation between countries in the region and China, he added.
The rail line will start in Kashgar in northwest China’s Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and travel to Uzbekistan via Kyrgyzstan. In the future, it may expand to West and South Asia.
In the initiative released on Thursday, SCO members note that it is important to defend and strengthen an open, transparent, fair, inclusive and non-discriminatory multilateral trading system to promote the building of an open global economy.
The SCO, which covers more than 60% of the Eurasian continent and almost half of the world’s population, provides a strategic opportunity to utilize regional land and maritime transport corridors, according to the initiative.
