In the 30 houses for life, the committed care and supervisory staff have extensive offers of company health promotion, good equipment with technical aids, career opportunities and working time models that enable a balance between professional and private life, as well as innovative training and further education offers. “As an employer, we focus on suitable framework conditions, through which we can more flexibly respond to the needs of our customers and their daily structure as well as the well -being of our employees”
explains Christian Hennefeind, managing director of the houses to live, whose team ensures that more than 8,500 senior citizens can live a self -determined and livable life. “The wide range enables us to have a high degree of flexibility. A win-win situation for our residents and for us,” says Denisse M., graduated from the Liebharstal House. Together with her more than 5,100 colleagues from the gastronomy, IT, administration or psychology, she shows that professional care can make a significant contribution to quality of life.
Real dialogue that leads to innovative offers
Another plus is the clear and daily commitment of the company to actively involve employees – one of the four corporate goals is under the title of participation. “Our ideas are not only heard, but also implemented together. This always creates new offers such as the ‘restaurant at the moment’-Vienna’s first dementia-friendly restaurant-or projects, such as our in-house brewing workshop, in which senior citizens are active and with great joy making delicious craft beers”

The houses for life encounter this development with new recruiting formats who open up to interested parties-whether career changers or young professionals-to get to know the profession. For example, a career session care & support invites interested parties to the Haus Schmelz (Ibsenstraße 1, 1150 Vienna; no registration required).

Program highlights for interested parties
- Research kitchen – enjoyment for everyone. This creates innovative dishes for residents with chewing and swallowing problems. From high -caloric creams to delicate cakes – with pleasure and quality of life in focus! - Brewing workshop – brewing beer as part of the care. Beer has been brewed in the Atzgersdorf house since 2020 – together by residents and employees. The integration into all work steps promotes motor skills, participation and ensures that sensible tasks are enjoyed. Dates: Friday, May 23, 2025 & Wednesday, June 11, 2025, each at 10:00 a.m. Location: Haus Atzgersdorf, Gatterlederstraße 12, 1230 Vienna.
- Tag families – structure and community for people with dementia. A daily routine with sensible activities strengthens the independence and quality of life of our residents. Date: Monday, June 16, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. Location: Haus Neubau, Schottenfeldgasse 25-27, 1070 Vienna.

The houses to life
With 30 pensioners in 21 Vienna municipal districts, the houses for life are the largest provider of senior care in Austria. The houses for life offer most care and living spaces in the country. In addition, thousands of older people visit the Vienna -wide retirement clubs for the city of Vienna every day, which are also operated by the houses to life. The houses for life are funded by the Social Eas Vienna (FSW) fund from the city of Vienna.
