Munich (ots) –

With today’s topping-out ceremony of anatomy and pathology as well as the groundbreaking for the central buildings of the veterinary faculty, the campus of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich (LMU) in Oberschleißheim continues to grow and develops into a unique veterinary training and research center in Europe.

  • The LMU’s veterinary faculty campus in Oberschleißheim is developing into a unique veterinary training and research center in Europe.
  • Construction measures are progressing quickly: topping -out ceremony of anatomy and pathology as well as groundbreaking for the central buildings.
  • Complete study company expected from 2027 in Oberschleißheim.

“The expansion of the Oberschleißheim campus for the veterinary faculty of the LMU is still making great progress,” says LMU President Prof. Bernd Huber. “Today’s groundbreaking for the central building and the library as well as the topping -out ceremony for the construction of the anatomy and pathology are important milestones in the development of this outstanding location for veterinary training and research. My special thanks go to the Free State of Bavaria for the continuous support of this future -oriented project. “

“Double surcharge for veterinary medicine, double surcharge for the entire LMU: With the two construction measures, we invest another 200 million euros on the campus here in Oberschleißheim, create outstanding conditions for LMU animal medicine and at the same time come in our master plan for the structural reorganization of the LMU a big step further – soon the physics campus on Königinstrasse can really start, “emphasized Bavaria’s Minister of Science Markus Blume. “The LMU campus Oberschleißheim will be the center of modern veterinary medicine in Europe. Horse clinic and microbiology are already finished. With the new building for anatomy and pathology, we are now combining the two excellent departments in one place. And with the central buildings for teaching halls and library For the perfect framework for training. Overall, we invest around 430 million euros on the campus in Oberschleißheim.

Students and scientists can look forward to a modern infrastructure for study and research when building the central building. Because in the buildings of the central facilities you will not only find large lecture halls, but also a library with reading spaces for singular learning and group jobs as well as a cafeteria and cafeteria.

The new Skills Lab in the central building will innovate the apprenticeship for all veterinary students and trainees in the animal care of LMU in an innovative way. Here the students work on realistic models and are thus prepared for their later profession. Compared to the Skills Lab, which is already on the main area, the new training rooms will be significantly larger and allow to make model-based and virtual learning to an even more important part of student training in veterinary medicine at LMU.

The new building of animal anatomy and animal pathology combines both disciplines under one roof. This enables more intensive exchange and improves the cooperation of anatomy and pathology in veterinary medicine. Around 150 employees will work in the building. Here, too, new lecture halls as well as preparation and sections halls and extensive show collections are created. Animal pathology in particular also offers important services for veterinarians and clinics, agriculture and zoo. The project is implemented by Doranthpost Architects GmbH.

Oberschleißheim campus of the LMU

The LMU campus takes on the groundbreaking ceremony for the central buildings and the topping -out ceremony of anatomy and pathology: in addition to the clinic for ruminants, the clinic for birds, small mammals, reptiles and decorative fish, the clinic for horses and an auditorium building with cafeteria that has already been completed, the new building for microbiology was in 2023 Inaugurated.

The current construction measures with a cost framework of more than 200 million euros enable that the study company of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the LMU will probably take place in Oberschleißheim from 2027.

With these developments, the LMU veterinary faculty strengthens its position as a leading institution in veterinary training and research in Germany and Europe.
