BYD relies on Voestalpine as the main supplier for its first European car plant and turns Austria into a V2H pilot market

BYD, the world’s leading New Energy Vehicle (NEV) manufacturer, is pleased to announce that he has made an agreement with the globally active steel and technology group Voestalpine, an agreement on the delivery of his new car plant in Hungary.

The agreement, which was officially announced by BYD Vice President Stella Li in Vienna together with Voestalpine CEO Herbert Eibensteiner, comprises steel sheets and makes the Voestalpine one of the first confirmed delivery partners for the work in Szeged. The company was selected by BYD due to its geographical proximity to the work in Hungary as well as the high quality and the excellent reputation of the Austrian steel.

The agreement is an important step in BYD’s localization strategy because the brand is further expanding its activities throughout Europe. By the end of 2025, BYD will be represented in 29 European countries and will have a sales network with more than 1,000 showrooms. In addition, BYD recently decided to build a new European headquarters in Budapest, together with its first tailor-made European research and development center, which will also be built in Hungary.

BYD will produce cars in Europe for Europe

The announcement of Voestalpine AG as a supplier shows how much BYD is committed to finding high -quality, competitive local suppliers in order to support his declared goal of producing cars in Europe for Europe. The company continues to meet hundreds of potential suppliers in key markets, while it is driving the preparations for the start of European production.

Stella Li, Executive Vice President von BYD: “BYD has always made it clear that we have come to Europe to stay here – and to produce. Our commitment to the European market is sustainable and, as we show here, goes far beyond the sale of cars. We are pursuing a long -term vision with the aim of being perceived by consumers as a European manufacturer within the next five years. Our factory in Hungary is of course the focus, so every local supplier is the supplier that we are Another important step.

Herbert Eibensteiner, CEO of Voestalpine AG, adds: “With its high -quality steel products, the Voestalpine is an important partner for the global automotive industry. With a unique combination of technology and material competence, we offer well-known automobile manufacturers: inside and- supplied: reliable and sustainable solutions inside. Our products are represented in almost all automotive assemblies-from the body to the drive to safety-relevant parts. With BYD, we are now supplying a technology company from China from our location in Linz from autumn from our location in Linz. We are confident that this first order for the production of high -quality flat steel for body and outer skin forms the basis for long -term cooperation. ”

Austria becomes a V2H pilot market in the EU

BYD has made strong progress in Austria and has become number one among the private buyers of electric vehicles (with a market share of 15 %). The company’s overall market share in this country is now 2.5 %. To further support this success, BYD has also announced that Austria should be the EU pilot market for the implementation of V2H technology (vehicle-to-home) in its vehicles.

Austria was selected for this project, which is also carried out in cooperation with a local industrial partner, since the expansion of the PV systems has accelerated significantly (note: currently more than half of the Austrian households are supplied with solar energy). Customer interest is also great: domestic BYD retailers report that half of the showroom visitors ask when the V2H function will be available to maximize your own power supply and reduce your energy costs. Further details about the project, including a schedule, will be announced shortly.
