Burgenland partner of the largest harbor festival in the world

Eisenstadt (OTS) –

For three days in May, everything in the Hanseatic city revolves around the port, the ships and maritime topics – but this time also about Burgenland as a business location. From the entry parade on May 9th to the big exit parade on May 11th, 2025, thousands of people crowd the banks of the Elbe and enjoy the fresh fish sandwiches. But not just these: this time Grammelpogatscherl, Sterz and delicious wines from Burgenland will also play an important role in Hamburg.

President of the Chamber of Commerce Andreas Wirth: “Through our contacts in Hamburg, we were asked whether Burgenland could imagine becoming a country partner for the port birthday. The German market is not insignificant for Burgenland: Burgenland exports goods worth around 850 million euros – around 30 percent of total exports – to Germany every year. So it was clear to us that we would accept – of course not without first looking for partners and we found them with the state of Burgenland, Tourismus Burgenland and Wein Burgenland.”

In the run-up to the harbor festival, not everything revolves around maritime topics, Wirth: “We will also present Burgenland as a business location in Hamburg. There are also network meetings for Burgenland entrepreneurs in the port city on the topics of renewable energy, digitalization and logistics.

In terms of tourism, Germany is the largest foreign market

For Burgenland, the partnership is an excellent opportunity to show its best side on an international stage and to underline its attractiveness as an economic and tourism region, said Governor Hans Peter Doskozil: “It is not only a great honor for Burgenland, to act as a partner of the Hamburg Harbor Birthday, the largest harbor festival in the world. From a tourism perspective, Germany is also our largest foreign market, and we can gain many advantages from this cooperation. We will use the opportunity to bring our country, with its cultural diversity, award-winning wines and breathtaking nature, to an even wider audience.”

Michael Wendt, from the team organizing the Hamburg Port Birthday: “The city of Hamburg is pleased to have won Burgenland, a vibrant region from the middle of Europe, as a partner for the Port Birthday.”

Following the press conference, a tour of the House of Wine in Donnerskirchen took place.
