Bundesheer supports forest fire fighting from the air

Vienna/Graz/Murau (ots) –

Since today, Sunday, August 24, 2025, the Austrian Armed Forces is in the assistance mission in Styria. After the outbreak of forest fires in the Murau area, an army helicopter supports the local fire brigades in fighting fire. The Austrian Armed Forces supports the civilian emergency services with an Agusta Bell 212 Transport helicopters.

“The Federal Army helps when support is needed. Our soldiers are of course available when asked for natural events. A helicopter is currently being used to help combat the forest fire in the Murau region.”

The Agusta Bell 212 is a medium-sized transport helicopter, has a two-leaf main and rear rotor, two turbine engines, a run-up area, is suitable for instruments and approved for a total of 14 people. The equipment with winch (rapidly mountable) and outside load hook enables versatile usability. The helicopter has a travel speed of 162 km/h, a range of 420 kilometers and the external load for extinguishing water is approx. 1,000 kilograms.
