BSVÖ & Burg OPER GARS: Opera for blind and visually impaired people | BSVÖ, blind people

“The Love Potion” with audio description in the opera BURG GARS

Vienna (OTS) On August 1st, 2024, the BURG GARS opera house invites you to a screening of Donizetti’s “L’elisir d’amore” – “The Love Potion” with audio description for the first time. Experienced speakers describe costumes, scenery and visual actions so that blind and visually impaired opera guests can experience barrier-free cultural enjoyment.

For director KS Clemens Unterreiner, long-time ambassador of the Austrian Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired (BSVÖ), this is a special project close to his heart for inclusion. As president of my charitable association HILFSTÖNE, I have been trying to make art and culture possible for everyone for many years. That’s why I’m proud to be able to implement such an offer for blind and visually impaired people in the first year of my directorship – as a statement that inclusion must not only be thought of, but also actively implemented, Unterreiner is full of anticipation for the inclusive opera evening under the star direction of Carolin Pienkos and Cornelius Obonya. Also Dr. Markus Wolf, President of the BSVÖ is pleased about the initiative: “Audio description is an important accessibility tool because it makes it possible to see more together. She creates the images that blind and severely visually impaired people cannot perceive and ensures that the performance is complete in the minds of the visitors.“

The BURG GARS opera will be the first major summer opera festival to offer such an inclusive offer. The performance of “L’elisir d’amore” – “The Love Potion” with audio description will take place on August 1, 2024 at 8 p.m. It is an outdoor performance.
