Markus Wieser has been fighting for children’s rehabilitation in Austria since 2009. First with the Children’s Rehab Initiative, which then became the Children’s Rehab Support Association. A lot has happened in these 15 years. The implementation of children’s rehabilitation in Austria was recommended by the then Health Minister Alois Stöger in 2013 after long, tough negotiations. After the financing and tenders had been clarified, the first children’s rehabs in Austria were opened in 2018, and the sixth, last children’s rehab in Tyrol was opened in 2023. Sick children and young people now also have the opportunity to take advantage of rehabilitation in Austria. In 2009 this was not possible.
On the occasion of 15th anniversary of the children’s rehabilitation association The chairman and founder of the association, Markus Wieser, published a book: “I would do it again.”
The anniversary book offers a look behind the scenes of the political negotiations, allows fellow campaigners to have their say as well as the primary doctors of the six children’s rehabilitation centers in personal interviews and, last but not least, gives an informative overview of the current care situation in Austria.
