Biometric passport for the DR Congo – implemented with Dermalog as a system partner

Hamburg/Kinshasa (OTS) –

The Democratic Republic of Congo officially introduced its new biometric passport on June 5, 2025. The passport offers the highest security standards and reliably protects the identity of the citizens. As a technical partner, Dermalog implemented the project under the leadership of the Congolese Foreign Ministry.

With the start of pass production on June 5, 2025, Congolese citizens receive a high-proof travel document that corresponds to the requirements of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) as well as the latest anti-counterfeiting functions: This includes contactless RFID chip, a polycarbonate data as well as advanced security features such as holograms, UV printing and watermark.

In the new pass system, the Congolese government relies on a complete solution from Dermalog-from online subordination to the biometric recording to the central expression of the passports. A total of 100 stations were installed for the biometric recording: 50 inpatient and mobile in Germany as well as 50 mobile units in the diplomatic representations of the DR Congo. All stations are equipped with fingerprint and iris scanners, cameras for facial recording, document scanners and signature pads. The production of the new passports takes place centrally and enables a daily issue of up to 2,400 passes.

“The introduction of the new passport is not a spontaneous decision, but a forward -looking reaction to changing international standards (…) and guarantees the free movement of our citizens with the maximum protection of their personal data,” said Foreign Minister Thérèse Kayikwamba Wagner (May 27, 2025, diplomatie.gouv.cd).

“We are proud to have accompanied this project as a partner. Our solution supports the digital sovereignty of the country and offers maximum security and efficiency,” said Günther Mull, Managing Director of Dermalog.

With the new passport, the DR Congo strengthens the protection of the identities of its citizens and lays the foundation for modern, digital agency services-enables Dermalog, the biometric expert and system suppliers through the complete solution.
