Bicycle boom at SportOkay.com
Innsbruck, August 16, 2024 – The ongoing trend towards cycling will also be clearly evident in the summer of 2024 at SportOkay.com, one of the leading online retailers for sporting goods in the DACH region. In the sales period from March to July, the company recorded above-average growth in the bicycle segment, with a particular focus on racing bikes and mountain bikes.
Road bike sales rose an impressive 122% year-on-year, while mountain bike sales increased 21%. These increases underscore consumers’ continued interest in outdoor sporting activities.
In Germany and Austria the bicycle market continues to grow. According to the Two-Wheeler Industry Association (ZIV), around 4.7 million bicycles were sold in Germany in 2023, which corresponds to an increase of around 10% compared to the previous year. Around 490,000 bicycles were sold in Austria in the same year, which also represents a significant increase of 7%.
Despite the general bicycle boom, growth in the e-bike segment at SportOkay.com remained relatively moderate at just 2%. “After the e-bike boom of the last few years, we are currently experiencing a certain saturation in the e-bike market. “Consumers are increasingly turning to classic bikes, which are currently often offered cheaper than used bikes,” explains Konrad Plankensteiner, CEO of SportOkay.com. “We are currently benefiting from the superiority of the bicycle industry and can pass on these attractive prices to our customers.”
In order to be prepared for ongoing growth, SportOkay.com has put a new Bike Logistic Center into operation with over 1,200 m² for warehousing and assembly. This investment allows the company to efficiently manage increasing demand and continue to provide a world-class service.
Consumers attach particular importance to security. This summer, SportOkay.com recorded an impressive 84% increase in bicycle helmet sales compared to last year. The cycling clothing sector also experienced significant growth: Sales figures rose by 91%, with trousers (+85%) and shirts & jerseys (+143%) in particular demand.
These figures make it clear that SportOkay.com continues to be successful and has established itself as a leading provider in the bicycle and sporting goods market.
